Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) March 6, 2006 — Results of a current online poll at www.NationalSpeedSportNews.com show readers are overwhelmingly dissatisfied with NASCAR’s stance on Jimmy Johnson’s rules violation at the recent Daytona 500. By a 3-to-1 margin readers said “yes” to the statement, “Should NASCAR have taken points away from Jimmie Johnson for his Daytona rules violation?”
The non-scientific online poll shows 75% of readers agree and 25% of readers disagree.
Johnson, the current NASCAR Nextel Cup Series points leader, faced controversy following his victory in the Daytona 500 when Crew Chief Chad Knaus was fined $25,000 and suspended from all NASCAR events until March 22, 2006 for an unapproved template modification to the No. 48 Chevrolet's rear window area.
Johnson followed up his Daytona 500 win with a second-place finish at California Speedway February 26, keeping him in the lead in the Nextel Cup standings. The next NASCAR race will be March 12 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
