The Catholic Letter (a newsletter explaining the Catholic Faith geared towards the common man) now offers online interactivity. New features include the ability of registered users to add comments to articles and take part in forum discussions.

(PRWEB) March 12, 2006 — The Catholic Letter ( http://thecatholicletter.com ) recently switched to a Drupal based content management system. The new features include the audience’s ability to add comments to published articles. The comments will be generally uncensored, and differing opinions are welcomed.

Eric Engel, professional freelance writer and chief editor of The Catholic Letter, says he anticipates “controversial discussion and heated debates.” While he admittedly realizes this will drive portions of his audience away, he hopes it will open the dialog between Catholics, non-catholic Christians, and atheists and agnostics. “The Catholic Letter, from its beginning, is focused on the common man. Part of this includes the voice of reason, and his ability to ask and answer questions.”

While many Catholic Publications allow for user comments, most filter out the more controversial ones. They often have strange restrictions regarding registration, use of real names, and other points that are almost foreign to conventional online interaction tools.

The Catholic Letter, started in 2005, was an offshoot of Copy For Sale ( http://copyforsale.com ), a copywriting company in Cleves, Ohio. The owner had decided to start a free newsletter explaining the Catholic Faith in common terms. Since then, the distribution grew, and repeated requests prompted them to allow the audience to comment on articles and post their own questions in an attached forum.

Eric Engel says that only offensive language and spam will be censored…all other comments are welcome.
